Why it exists

Ad takeovers used to be code deploys: someone had to ship a build at the go-live minute, and a missed deploy meant the wrong brand on the homepage. Sophie's Aug 1 request ('launched for August 1st, 12AM') is exactly this shape.

What it does

A live view of every ad campaign set - what's LIVE now, what's SCHEDULED and when it flips, and what ran before. Campaign sets are data, not code: the website asks the worker which set is active on every visit, so a swap is just a row with a future timestamp. Each scheduled card has a one-click 'Preview this state on the live site' link (only you see the future state; customers are unaffected).

How to use it — live steps

  1. Open tools.sessions.ca/ad-scheduler/ - the LIVE card is what customers see right now.
  2. SCHEDULED cards show the exact ET flip time and what changes (hero, ad slots, flipbook).
  3. Click 'Preview this state on the live site' on a scheduled card to see the future homepage/shop exactly as customers will - safe, only your browser.
  4. To schedule or change a swap, send Ravi the creatives + brands + go-live time; it takes one insert, no deploy.

Worth knowing

  • Swaps land within seconds of the scheduled minute (the cache window shrinks automatically as a flip approaches).
  • Rollback is the same mechanism: re-insert the previous config effective immediately.
  • Ad views and clicks are tracked first-class (ad_impression / ad_click with campaign ids) so each takeover has real numbers.
